Zhi Yuan 支援is a penname of Zhi Zhenyuan. Zhi was born in Hebei. At the age of 18 he graduated from Chengde Junior Middle School and began work at the Chengde post office. In 1939, Zhi was transferred to Harbin post office as a manager, and he began to write. From 1940 to 1941, he edited the literary section in the 濱江日報(Binjiang Daily). Due to the Manchukuo authorities searching to arrest him, he fled back to his hometown. In the spring of 1945, he returned to Harbin and was arrested by the Japanese. In November 1945, he began revolutionary work.
