Ye Li 也丽is a penname of Liu Yunqing; other pennames include Liu Ming and Jing Hai. He was born on 15 December 1902, in Liaoning province. Ye graduated from a teacher training school in 1923 and spent over twenty years as a primary school teacher. Ye published in several newspapers during the occupation and published one volume of short stories and two volumes of essays in Manchukuo. Eventually, he was banned from publishing and was arrested by the Manchukuo authorities. From 1947, he was appointed principal of Dalian New China Middle School. In 1959, he was sent down to the countryside. In 1982, he was returned to his former position. Ye died on 15 August 1986.
