Tian Bing 田兵was born in 1913, in Lüshunkou, Dalian. He graduated from Lüshunkou’s Higher Public Teacher Training School to teach primary school. In 1933, he began writing. In 1937, he wrote articles for Mukden’s (Shenyang/Fengtian) 新青年 (New youth) and for Changchun’s (Xinjing) 明明(Brilliance). In 1939, Tian participated in the 作风 (Ch: Zuofeng/Eng: Style) publishing society; he published 作风 (Style); and a collection of poetry, 地平线 (Horizon). Tian worked as an editor at 麒麟 (Unicorn). In 1944, he worked at the 大地图书公司 (Earth Books Company). After Manchukuo collapsed in 1945, he worked for the Sino-Soviet Friendship Association and participated in revolutionary work. He also edited the journal 知识 (Knowledge) and served as editor at Beijing People’s Publishing Co., Dongbei Youth Publishing Co., and Liaoning People’s Publishing Co. In 1957, he was persecuted as a Rightist and anti-revolutionary. In 1979, that verdict was reversed, and Tian returned to work.
