1900

  • Consecration of St. Nicholas Cathedral in the New Town (in 1908 the temple received the status of a cathedral, and since 1922 – the status of a cathedral). Construction of the temple was completed in 1899. Architect I.V. Podlevsky. Destroyed during the Chinese “cultural revolution” in 1966
  • Opening of two primary schools for children of railway workers (the first school was opened by teacher I.S. Stepanov in 1898).
  • Opening of a summer theater in the City Garden and the Buff Theater Garden (the latter existed until the early 20s).
  • Opening of the Railway Assembly in temporary premises.
  • Start of operation of the first store of the trading house “I.Ya. Churin and KO”, which later expanded its activities by opening two more department stores in the city and branches along the entire CER line. In the 30–40s. 1901

  • Publication of the first Russian newspaper “Harbin List of Daily Telegrams and Announcements”. Editor-publisher P.V. Rovensky (1901–1902; May-November 1905).
  • Opening of the first Harbin public library.
  • Opening of a club and a special library for workers of the Mechanical Workshops of the CER.
  • Construction of the capital building of the Chinese Eastern Railway Administration on Bolshoy Prospekt in the New City – the actual control center for the entire life of the city and the “right-of-way” in the first years.

1902

  • Completion of construction and illumination of the first Church of the Annunciation on the Pier, which belonged to the Beijing Spiritual Mission.
  • Establishment of the library-reading room of the Railway Assembly (in 1925 it became part of the Central Library of the CER). Founders: I.I. Oblomievsky, S.N. Khilkov and others
  • Opening of the Commercial Meeting on the Pier (1902–1950s). The founders are a group of businessmen. Subsequently, the Komsomol played an important role in the development of the musical and theatrical life of the city. There were concerts of symphonic music under the direction of E. Mettepa and A. Slutsky, independent concerts of many young musicians of Harbin, theatrical performances, etc.
  • Establishment of the Georgian Society of Harbin.

1903

  • Commissioning of the CER – the beginning of direct communication Vladivostok – Moscow via Harbin.
  • Establishment of the Harbin Jewish Spiritual Community.
  • Publication of the first issue of the newspaper “Harbin Herald” (1903–1917). Editor K.P. Lazarev, in subsequent years – N.V. Slyunin, P.S. Tishenko and others

  • Organization of the Society of Equestrian Lovers (hereinafter referred to as the “Society for the Promotion of Horse Breeding in Northern Manchuria”). Trotting and racing competitions – since 1906

1906

  • Establishment of the Educational Department of the Chinese Eastern Railway Administration as an independent road service (by this time there were 1,886 students in schools with 38 teachers).

  • Opening of the Oriant cinemas in the New Town and the Grand Illusion cinemas on the Pier. By 1927, there were 10 cinemas in Harbin, showing all the major films of world cinema. ..
  • Arrival of entrepreneur E.M. Valley with drama troupe. The season was opened by The Inspector General. Days of Our Lives has aired 14 times.
  • Opening of the Ukrainian club. Chairman I. Dobrovolsky. Since 1910, the drama club “Bandura” began working at the Club.
  • Founding of the Jewish literary and dramatic society “Imaldag” and library (1908–1926).

1909

  • Creation of the Society of Russian Orientalists (ORO) (1909–1927). Initiators and participants: orientalists A.V. Spitsyn, I.G. Baranov, AL. Boloban, I. A Dobrolovsky, N.N. Matsokin, A.L. Khionin et al.
  • Publication of the first issue of the OPO journal “Bulletin of Asia”, which has become the leading scientific publication in the region. In total, over 50 issues were published.
  • Book publishing: AI. Petelin Chinese language textbook for Harbin trade school; V.V. Rykachev. Railways – a new type of weapon against the enemy, etc.
  • Opening of the private gymnasium of B. A Anders (1909–1937).

  • Opening of a large bookstore by I.T. Shchelokov (1909–1921), whose owners were subsequently V.M. Posokhin and G. K. Gins. The store offered books in Russian and foreign languages.
  • Construction of a hippodrome in Modyagou.
  • Start of operation of the Harbin radio station, built by the Russian Military Department (1909–1923). (In 1926–1927, the Chinese administration built a new radio station that broadcast news and music.)

1910

  • Establishment of the Manchurian Pedagogical Society (1910–1918). Three years later, the Society began to publish a monthly pedagogical magazine, “Education in Asian Russia.” Editor M.V. Zamyatin, later – M.K Kostin.

  • Opening of the Railway Assembly (Zhelsob) in a new, landscaped building on Bolshoy Prospekt in New Town. In subsequent years, it was the main cultural center of the city, where L. Lipkovskaya, A Mozzhukhin, A Labinsky, Shevelev, V. Kravchenko, S. Lemeshev and many other famous artists performed at one time. In the 20s. 1913

  • Anniversary celebrations in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty.

  • Opening of the Polish gymnasium named after G. Sienkiewicz (1913–1948) .
  • Completion of construction and opening by Kaspe of the hotel and cinema “Modern” on the Pristan. At the end of 1931, the theater was reconstructed, increasing the capacity of the hall from 750 to 1200 seats.
